The proponent wishes to install and operate two thermophilic composters. Both sites were chosen close to the road to be connected to the electric power grid. The works consist of building a gravel platform and a concrete surface. The project’s complete surface area is 30 x 30 m in Kangiqsualujjuaq and 30 x 45 m, including a prefabricated garage, in Kuujjuaq.
The composters will be powered by the electric power grid, and the projects are expected to use around 21.25 kW each.
The compost will spend between 12 and 14 days in the composter before being poured into bags, where it will mature for 2 to 4 months. Once mature, the compost can be used in borrow-pit rehabilitation, roadside revegetation, as covering material at the northern landfill or, if analysis criteria are met, even in northern agriculture.
No deforestation, blasting or backfilling activities are planned
