The permanent storage area for excavated materials was authorized on May 19, 2020, by the MELCC Regional Directorate for an area of 18,081 m2. An additional 6,598 m2 is now required to store excavation spoil.
The temporary access area was authorized on May 19, 2020, by the MELCC’s Regional Directorate for an area of 7,460 m2. In order to access the ramp, an additional area of 6,046 m2 is now required to ensure the safe circulation of vehicles on the construction site. The proponent mentioned that it had not initially planned to use this area to store construction materials, but considering the large quantity of materials arriving by boat, the access area could now be used for this purpose.
The tailrace canal was authorized on July 10, 2020, by the MELCC’s Regional Directorate with an area of 4,707 m2. However, the tailrace alignment had to be modified to move its outlet further downstream, since the spoil was not suitable for the construction of the canal. Thus, an additional 1,377 m2 area is now required.
The sedimentation basin was authorized for construction on July 10, 2020, by the MELCC’s Regional Directorate and was located within the tailrace right-of-way. As a result of the modification, the sedimentation basin was also moved beyond the tailrace right-of-way. The basin is now further away from Inukjuak River and the freed-up area allows for the construction of filter berms, used to filter the water to remove most of the sediment.
