Decision pdf 283 KBDescription
Regular maintenance of the airstrip and the gravel access road is required, using granular material from an existing quarry (PUV-ST6). It is located approximately 500 metres northwest of the airport runway. A certificate of authorization (CA) was issued to the Ministère des Transports du Québec (MTQ) in 2008 and was subject to a boundary amendment in 2016. MTQ has had an exclusive surface mineral lease (BEX) since 2017 (No. 1681), which ended on January 16, 2022. An application to renew and expand the lease was filed with the Mnistère de l’Énergie et des Ressources naturelles (MERN) in November 2021. Production at the quarry is scheduled for spring 2022 and the project to resurface the manoeuvring area, which includes the airstrip, taxiway and apron, is scheduled for 2023. The granular materials required for these works will be produced in the PUV-ST6 quarry already being operated by the MTQ. The needs for resurfacing are estimated at 50,000 m3, corresponding to the net volume remaining in the current quarry. The 4.08 ha expansion of the quarry, for a total of 7.05 ha, will provide materials for short-term needs and for future maintenance and construction projects at the airport site. The enlarged quarry will be operated for about 10 years.
