The current quarry has a surface area of 2.23 hectares, with a net volume of rock estimated at 13,678 m3. Requirements over the next few years are estimated at around 40,000 m3. The MTMD has planned two projects at the Kangiqsualujjuaq airport for the 2026–2027 season, namely the expansion of the building complex and the construction of a new terminal and garage.
Therefore, the MTMD wishes to expand the quarry to obtain the materials needed to meet the airport’s and village’s needs in the coming years. The proposed 2.47-hectare extension of the quarry would provide an estimated net secured volume of 25,7543 m3. This expansion would make it possible to produce materials for the long-term needs of the village, as well as for current and future maintenance and construction needs at the airport.
Works are scheduled to start in 2026.
