Decision pdf 412 KBDescription
The application includes the addition of the Nanaujaq deposit by way of underground access, as well as underground extensions to the Expo Sud, Méquillon (Méquillon UG2) and Ivakkak (Ivakkak UG) deposits.
The Ivakkak pit was authorized by the certificate of authorization issued on May 20, 2008, and an amendment was authorized on April 14, 2022. The Ivakkak site now includes an ore stockpile, two waste rock piles (one has the potenital for mine drainage that is potentially acid generating (PAG) but the other is not), two surface-water collection basins and a mine wastewater management system. The site also includes a service platform, including a garage, offices and a telecommunications tower.
The amendment to the current project seeks to expand the mine underground to elevations between 365 m and 300 m above sea level. The works would be conducted in 2024.
The Méquillon satellite mine is located approximately 18 km southwest of the Expo complex and approximately 23 km north of Pingualuit National Park. Its operation was authorized on May 20, 2008, and then two amendments were authorized, on November 6, 2012, and on April 14, 2022. The site now consists of an underground pit and operations, a waste rock pile, a mine wastewater management system, 246,000-m3 collection basin, a water treatment plant, an effluent in Lake No. 3, an ore pad, a service platform and a ramp for underground mining. The purpose of this amendment request is to extend the life of the Méquillon deposit by mining to a greater depth
The Nanaujaq site is a new underground deposit for NNiP that is located along the existing access road between the Expo mining complex and Méquillon. This deposit has not yet been operated.
